Alors que la piste parallèle de Brisbane est sur le point d'ouvrir en 2020, Airservices Australia a lancé son tout nouveau simulateur de tour de contrôle à 360 degrés (CTS). Cette installation offre aux contrôleurs aériens une plate-forme de formation en immersion totale idéale pour la prochaine configuration de piste de l'aéroport de Brisbane.
Le contrôle de la circulation aérienne à Shreveport (Louisiane) et dans ses environs pose des défis uniques en matière de dotation à la FAA, car la tour et les installations radar sont situées à l'autre bout de la ville et les contrôleurs travaillent aux deux endroits. Mais la technologie de formation que Shreveport a mise en place en 2012 a rendu les circonstances inhabituelles plus faciles à gérer.
Parallèlement à une importante mise à niveau de son obsolescence logicielle et matérielle, le Système de simulation des tours de contrôle de la circulation aérienne (ATC-TSS) est le premier de la Force aérienne à offrir un affichage vertical à neuf écrans.
Si la sécurité est sur toutes les lèvres aujourd'hui, alors peut-être que le simulateur de conduite devrait être en tête de la liste des souhaits de tous les comptables, écrit Alwyn Brice.
Au cours des deux années qui se sont écoulées depuis sa création en tant qu'idée de base pour combler une lacune dans les capacités de la communauté du contrôle de la circulation aérienne de l'Armée de terre, le simulateur commun ATC a fait beaucoup de chemin. Les deux premiers des 15 systèmes prévus ont été mis en service, le premier à Fort Rucker et le second à la 82e Division aéroportée à Fort Bragg (C.-B.).
